Faith Is The Substance Of Things Hoped For
By Brett Elizabeth Spore(Founder/President) & Dr. Karen Bennett (Advisor)
Our goal is to become the best place to play in Western Washington with Christ at the heart of it all. Our dream is to obtain property in Lynnwood, WA that would accommodate a variety of activities.
| Skate Park | Café | Job Training Center |
| Rock Climbing Gym | Concert Stage | Homeschool P.E. |
| Active Arcade | Tutoring Center | Summer Camps |
Our intention is to open the skate park first; followed by the café and concert stage. Then the rock climbing walls and active arcade will be installed as funds become available. The tutoring and job training center will be built during the initial office construction phase of the project, and it will open as soon as competent and caring staff are acquired and trained.
We want to make the center available for all youth, so as a non-profit we are committed to keeping entrance fees as low as possible. Our desire is to staff the facility primarily with volunteers and teens participating in the job training program. We intend to create a safe, Christian environment in which our youth can learn to honor God and grow in their respect for each other, their community, and themselves.
M.A.D. Skates & Rec Center -- A Place Where Every Kid Wants to Be!
History In The Making
By Brett Elizabeth Spore(Founder/President)
In 1993, as I was sitting halfway back in a Sunday morning church service, I tuned out the pastor as my heart and mind tuned into God. On that day God gave me the vision for a recreational center and skate park for ministry to the youth of the Bothell, Kenmore, and Lynnwood area. I had no idea how to go about creating such a ministry, but sensing God’s direction, I began researching existing skate parks both Christian and secular, making contacts with local churches, and learning how to start a non-profit business.
In 1999, my husband and I gathered a team of board members to create and incorporate M.A.D. Skates & Rec Center. We gained our 501 (c)-3 non-profit status in 2002 and went online with www.madskates.com.
In 2004, the board of directors focused on building connections with other Christian Skate Ministries. From 2004 through 2006, M.A.D. Skates’ main objective was to maintain a website where youth and parents could find out about Christian skate activities in their local area. We encouraged skaters to walk out their faith by staying involved in the Christian skate community and bringing their friends to great events put on by local churches.
In 2007, M.A.D. Skates connected with old acquaintances, Boarders for Christ, to assist in the purchase of their skate park demo ramps used in their 2007 tour. Calvary Chapel Corona was able to purchase the ramps with a matching donation of $2,000 from M.A.D. Skates. The youth of Calvary Chapel were thrilled to see the newly resurfaced ramps installed in February of 2008.
Our new website went online in 2008 to showcase a turning tide as the M.A.D. Skates’ blog became a fast and easy way to get the word out and keep all of our regular web visitors up to date on what’s happening at M.A.D. Skates today.
2008 has been one of both awe and excitement as we have been looking for property to begin building the vision which God gave me back in 1993. Although our plan has become more clearly defined over the last fifteen years, the heart of the vision has remained constant. In our own strength, it would be utterly impossible to accomplish what God has called us to do. With a growing knowledge of God’s limitless ability, we wait in eager expectation to see how He is going to take M.A.D. Skates and Rec Center to its full potential!
